July 7, 2010 If You Purchased an LG or Sears French Door Refrigerator Bearing The Energy Star Label, You May Be Interested in an Ongoing Legal Investigation
Law Offices Of Scott A. Bursor, www.bursor.com, has uncovered information suggesting that certain models of LG and Sears refrigerators sold bearing the Energy Star label did not meet the Energy Star standards for energy efficiency. Some of these models may not even meet the minimum standards for energy efficiency under federal law. The refrigerators at issue include LG or Sears french door model numbers LFX28977, LFX25975, LFX21975, LMX25985, 7973 (Sears), 7975 (Sears), and 7978 (Sears). "The information we've obtained suggests that LG may have deliberately disabled key components of the icemakers in these models during energy testing, which resulted in significant underreporting of energy consumption to the Department of Energy, and to consumers as well," said Scott A. Bursor, a private attorney investigating potential civil claims on behalf of persons who purchased these refrigerators. Based on this information, the Department of Energy (DOE), which jointly administers the Energy Star labeling program with the Environmental Protection Agency, ordered LG to remove the Energy Star labels from approximately 40,000 of its refrigerators.
